What is Cataract | Symptoms of Cataract | Advanced Cataract Surgery | Choosing the Right Lens | Care after Surgery | Cataract in Children

As the human body ages, it goes through changes in all the organs, starting from the external skin to all the internal parts of our body. Aging is a natural process which we all go through.

Signs of Natural Aging
Hair changes   Skin changes   Bone Changes
Eye Changes  - Cataract
Normal, clear lens   Lens clouded by cataract
Cataract is the clouding of the eye's natural lens. Most people aged 50 yrs or older have cataract or are likely to get them. Sometimes cataract can also occur in children and younger individuals.
The natural crystalline lens of the eye is made mostly of water and protein. Sometimes in a person’s 50s, 60s, or 70s, some of the protein will clump together, causing the eye’s natural lens to become discolored and clouded. This clouding of the natural lens is called a cataract.

When this occurs, light rays passing through the eye become scattered and unfocused. The result is that all objects, whether near or far, become blurry. If left untreated, cataracts can lead to blindness.
Cataract is not caused by eye strain, watching too much T.V or reading too much. It  is a result of aging, injury, steroid use in the form of oral, topical, or inhaled steroids, exposure to  heat, excessive UV or sun light, smoking & diabetes.
When Cataract causes vision to get blurred, it is better to have the cloudy lens removed by an operation and replaced by a clear artificial lens.
Cataract Surgery  is one of the most successful & safe medical procedures performed today. It is the most common surgical procedure performed in India.
